At EDF, Success is Personal. We don’t define it, you do. Join our Chemistry Industrial Placement and you’ll shape your future while helping Britain achieve net zero. You’ll team up with experienced scientists and engineers who’ll support your growth and help you make a real impact across our nuclear fleet.
This 12-month placement offers a starting salary of £26,050 and the chance to work within our Fleet Engineering Governance and Oversight (FEGO) team. You’ll support the Chief Chemist and contribute to chemistry compliance across eight nuclear power stations.
You’ll gain exposure to short-term and long-term projects, including monitoring chemical safety, analysing performance data, and supporting technical standards. You’ll also have opportunities to visit operating nuclear stations and collaborate with EDF’s central chemistry specialists and regulators.
During your Chemistry Industrial Placement, you’ll work with the FEGO chemistry team to maintain and improve the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), used across the nuclear fleet. Past students have analysed chemistry data to generate performance metrics, supported emergent plant issues, and contributed to technical reviews and compliance programmes.
You’ll communicate with colleagues across the fleet, contribute to technical documentation, and take part in training to deepen your understanding of nuclear plant chemistry and operations. This placement offers a unique opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting.
Our #Gloucester office will be your main location, with hybrid working available throughout the placement. You’ll also have opportunities to visit nuclear power stations across the UK.
To be eligible for this EDF industrial placement, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in chemical sciences.
It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
Alongside a starting salary of at least £26,050 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.
Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities.
As a Disability Confident employer, we're committed to creating an accessible recruitment process and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need. Should you disclose a disability and meet the minimum criteria (which will include holding a relevant degree discipline/grade and achieving the required pass mark for Stage 1 Testing) for the role you’ll be progressed to the first stage of the selection process. Some of our roles at EDF attract large volumes of applications. When this happens, we’ll apply the Disability Confident scheme’s guidance on taking practical and appropriate steps selecting disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job.
We'll guide you through every stage and keep you updated along the way. You'll be supported by real people, with opportunities to ask questions, learn more and receive feedback where possible.
For our Early Careers Programmes, we use a combination of automated decision-making, assessment technology and human review.
