📝 Overview
Build What Matters
The Full Stack Engineer is an ownership role responsible for product outcomes end-to-end: from shaping technical approaches and building features through to release, reliability, and production performance.
At Sitemate, engineers combine strong technical craft with product thinking and delivery ownership. You'll work in small, high-trust teams alongside Product Design Managers to define problems, shape solutions, implement clean and scalable systems, and take responsibility for what ships — including how it behaves once live.
Engineering, product, and delivery are not separate handoffs here; they operate as one integrated team. We believe the future of product development in an AI-accelerated world belongs to engineers who can think beyond tickets - they own outcomes and deliver at speed with AI.
Employment:
- Full-time
- Based: Sydney, Australia or Melbourne, Australia
- Remuneration (Including Super): AUD $85,000 - $115,000 pending your experience
About Sitemate
Sitemate builds best-in-class software and AI agents for the built world, helping construction, infrastructure and industrial companies work smarter and faster. Our mission is to multiply the engineering power of the built world.
Storm is the #1 data capture agent for the front line of the built world - converting audio, photos and videos into clean structured records.
With conversational support in-app and across SMS, Whatsapp and phone calls, Storm is shifting front line workers from paperwork and clunky digital forms, to natural language and multi-channel data capture.
Our core platforms are Dashpivot (safety, quality and field reporting), Gearbelt (fleet and asset management), Flowsite (no-code integrations), and the Sitemate mobile app for every worker on site.
We have strong product-market fit, generating thousands of new leads per month through word of mouth and organic channels. We are backed by Blackbird, with 200 people across 18+ countries and entities in Australia, the UK, the US and Canada.

🔧 What this role looks like at the junior level
You'll join a team attached to one of our products and learn by shipping. Senior engineers will pair with you, review your work, and invest in your growth - but you'll have real ownership from early on.
You'll work across frontend, backend, and mobile: TypeScript, React, Node.js, Angular, MongoDB, and AWS. You don't need to know all of these, willingness to learn matters more than what you know today.
Two things make engineering different here:
- You'll develop a product mindset. Instead of just working through tickets, you'll start understanding why features matter to customers. Engineers here are closer to the problem than at most companies; your work has context and meaning from day one.
- You'll build with AI from the start. We're moving toward agentic engineering where engineers define what to build and orchestrate AI agents to construct it. As a junior here, you'll develop AI-first habits that most engineers won't learn for years.
🔧 Day-to-Day
- Build and ship features with guidance from experienced teammates.
- Work with AI tools daily, with the team's workflow skills for planning, implementation and review.
- Fix bugs and improve product stability across web and mobile.
- Investigate and resolve production issues.
- Grow into more ownership over time, this role expands as you do.
✨ What's in it for you
- Structured development from day one. Every engineer gets a Sitemate Development Plan (SDP), quarterly reviews, and access to an L&D budget. You'll know exactly what growth looks like.
- AI engineering skills that put you ahead. You'll learn agentic engineering practices now, building a forward looking skillset.
- Real impact from week one. Your code powers wind farms, railways, highways, and mining operations in 100+ countries. You'll see the results of your work, not just a JIRA ticket number.
- Equity ownership. ESOP participation on a standard vesting schedule, you own a piece of what you help build.
- Hybrid and flexible. Sydney or Melbourne-based
- A team that actually supports you. Intellect mental health platform, and a culture where Handle with Care is a real operating value.
⚡ Challenges
- Our products seem simple to users but contain a high degree of technical complexity — shared components across multiple products, backend services powering web and mobile clients. There's a lot to learn.
- Pace: we move quickly, so you'll need to be excited to learn fast.
- We have a strong culture based on core values and operating principles. You may need to unlearn some habits from previous experience.
✅ Who This Role is For
- You've built things you're proud of at a startup, in a side project, during a bootcamp, or at university.
- You're deeply curious about AI-powered development and want to learn agentic engineering in a production environment.
- You want to understand the customer problem, not just the code.
- You're energised by learning fast in a supportive, high-tempo environment.
- You want to be part of building something meaningful — our users build real infrastructure that shapes communities.
🚫 Who This Role is Not For
- You prefer a slow ramp with months of onboarding before touching production code — here you'll ship early, with support.
- You're not interested in owning the end-to-end delivery of features.
- You're not interested in AI-first engineering practices, this is core to how we work, not optional.
🎯 Skills & Tools
Must Have:
- Curiosity, drive, and willingness to learn
- Some experience building software (startup, bootcamp, university, side project)
- Hands on experience with AI-powered developer tools and agentic engineering practices.
- Product mindset — wants to understand customer problems, not just implement tickets
Nice to Have:
- TypeScript, React, Node.js, Angular, MongoDB, or AWS experience
- Mobile development experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup or product environment
Essential Tools:
- AI Coding Tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex)
- TypeScript / JavaScript
- React or Angular
- Node.js
Bonus Tools:
- MongoDB
- AWS
- React Native / mobile
PLEASE Note:
- We hire directly and don’t work with agencies
