About this role

About the role: - Build and maintain scalable backend systems and services that power American Express platforms - Write clean, efficient code in your primary programming language while following established design patterns and best practices - Participate in the full software development lifecycle from design and implementation through testing and deployment - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers and other engineers to deliver features that meet business needs - Review code submitted by teammates and provide constructive feedback to maintain code quality standards - Debug production issues and implement fixes to resolve customer-impacting problems What you'll work on: - Designing and developing APIs and microservices that handle high-volume transaction processing - Optimizing database queries and application performance to ensure systems run efficiently at scale - Writing unit tests and integration tests to verify the correctness of your code - Documenting technical decisions and maintaining clear system architecture documentation What we're looking for: - Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms and system design - Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, Go or similar - Experience working with relational databases and understanding of SQL - Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative development workflows - Ability to communicate clearly about technical concepts with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders - Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and commitment to writing maintainable code
