About this role

About the role: - Join Gokiwi Tech's backend engineering team and work on the systems supporting its core product experience. - The company's backend uses Java microservices running on Kubernetes, supported by PostgreSQL, Redis and extensive external-partner integrations. - Engineers write production code from the first week, own features end to end and contribute to designing, shipping and operating high-throughput backend systems. - This opening is for SDE 2; more level-specific information will be shared after the application stage. What you'll work on: - Develop and maintain Java microservices, including APIs, background jobs, integrations and application data models. - Build reliable partner integrations that account for signed callbacks, retries, idempotency, reconciliation and non-standard status responses. - Define REST APIs for peer services and implement the related database migrations and tests. - Diagnose production incidents using distributed traces, logs, metrics, database information and third-party responses before shipping fixes. - Take part in code reviews, on-call responsibilities and post-incident analysis, with direct responsibility for production code. What we're looking for: - Candidates should have 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience, primarily in Java, with Java 17+ preferred. - Strong DSA and problem-solving ability is required, including reasoning about complexity, selecting appropriate data structures and performing well in live coding rounds. - Practical experience with Spring Boot or Spring MVC, REST API design and dependency injection is expected. - Applicants should be confident working with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including SQL queries, indexes and diagnosing N+1 query problems. - Knowledge of Git, Docker, Linux or shell tooling and a caching technology such as Redis or Memcached is required. - Candidates should communicate clearly in writing, including technical pull-request descriptions and incident post-mortems. - Expected CS fundamentals include object-oriented programming, concurrency basics, HTTP, JSON and basic system design such as designing a URL shortener or rate limiter. - Applicants should regularly use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot, know how to prompt effectively, evaluate generated code critically and use these tools to improve delivery speed without reducing quality. Good to have: - Relevant additional experience includes end-to-end vendor integrations for payments, banking, KYC or notifications; fintech domains such as UPI, cards, netbanking, BBPS, refunds, chargebacks, reconciliation and PCI-DSS; Kafka, SQS or RabbitMQ; eventual-consistency designs; Kubernetes; AWS technologies including EKS, RDS, Secrets Manager and S3; CI/CD through GitHub Actions; observability with OpenTelemetry, SigNoz, Grafana or structured logs; and webhook processing involving idempotency keys, replay handling, JOSE, JWS, JWE or HMAC signing. - Familiarity with Liquibase, Flyway, Hibernate/JPA or MapStruct is useful, while open-source contributions, strong Codeforces or LeetCode records, and reviewable side projects may strengthen an application. - Bonus consideration is given for having integrated more than three vendors for one capability within a single service, having managed a P0 incident while on-call, or having professional exposure to Go, Python or Kotlin in addition to Java. Note: The JD covers both SDE 1 and SDE 2; additional details specific to each level will be discussed after the application stage.
