About this role
About the role: - Design and implement APIs and microservices that power a hyperlocal platform serving millions of users and transactions - Optimize database queries and system architecture to handle real-time data flows and ensure low-latency responses - Partner with product managers and senior engineers to define requirements, design solutions, and deliver features end-to-end - Contribute to decisions around infrastructure, distributed systems design, and performance tuning across the platform - Own the quality of your code from initial commit through production, including testing, documentation, and monitoring What we're looking for: - Solid foundation in at least one of these languages: Python, Node.js, Go, or Java - Working knowledge of REST API design principles and relational or NoSQL databases - Portfolio of projects outside the classroom—GitHub repositories, personal experiments, or prior internships that show applied technical skills - Ability to break down complex problems logically and think through trade-offs in system design - Genuine interest in learning how backend systems scale and handle high traffic - Comfort with uncertainty and an approach that treats failures as learning opportunities rather than setbacks What the work involves: - Writing clean, maintainable backend code that other engineers can easily review and build on - Debugging production issues and iterating on performance improvements based on monitoring data - Reading documentation, exploring new frameworks or tools, and updating your skills as the platform evolves - Discussing architectural decisions with teammates and understanding the reasoning behind design choices
