About the role: - Oolka is hiring an ML Engineer for its Intelligence team in Bengaluru. - The role is onsite and focuses on building the core machine-learning intelligence behind Oolka's AI systems. - The engineer will own foundational retrieval and memory capabilities while solving advanced LLM and ML problems from first principles. - Oolka is an AI-powered consumer fintech company focused on helping users improve and manage their credit health. What you'll work on: - Own model-selection strategy for production AI systems. - Design evaluation frameworks for measuring LLM quality and performance. - Build Oolka's retrieval and memory layer from the ground up. - Develop scalable retrieval pipelines and ranking systems. - Improve model quality through post-training techniques including fine-tuning and reinforcement-learning approaches. - Drive research-backed experiments for continuous model improvement. - Work with product and engineering teams to convert ambiguous problems into robust ML solutions. - Establish best practices for ML experimentation, evaluation and deployment. What we're looking for: - Candidates should have 3–5 years of experience in Machine Learning or Applied AI. - Strong ML foundations are required, including hands-on work with XGBoost, NLP, recommendation systems, personalization and large-scale retrieval. - Deep understanding of LLM architecture, training and inference is expected. - LLM post-training experience through fine-tuning and/or reinforcement learning is mandatory. - Applicants should have experience designing model-evaluation frameworks and benchmarking methodologies. - Strong knowledge of retrieval systems, embeddings, ranking and memory architectures is required. - Candidates should be able to define ambiguous ML problems independently, reason from first principles and make data-driven decisions. - Strong communication, experimentation and technical reasoning skills are expected.
