About the role: - Build and maintain backend systems and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript in a production environment - Design and implement queue and worker systems that handle retries, idempotency, and failure scenarios - Integrate with external APIs, managing challenges like rate limiting, pagination, webhook delivery, and token expiration - Optimize and maintain PostgreSQL databases, including query optimization and index strategy - Contribute to an open-source project that thousands of teams depend on What you'll bring: - Proven experience shipping Node.js and TypeScript applications to production; you can point to something you built and articulate what you would approach differently today - Working knowledge of Express, NestJS, or equivalent frameworks, with comfort around middleware patterns, application structure, and dependency injection - Experience building async job systems where you have solved problems around retries, idempotency, and handling partial failures - Track record integrating with third-party APIs outside your control, having navigated rate limits, pagination, webhook mechanics, and token lifecycle issues - Hands-on familiarity with PostgreSQL, including reading execution plans, adding indexes, and understanding the performance impact Nice to haves: - Prior contributions to Plane, experience running it as a self-hosted instance, or maintenance work on another open-source project with real users - Built data importers or migration tools where data loss was not an option - Experience implementing OAuth on the provider side, or building a developer platform that others built integrations against - Built systems where AI agents operate on real data, with formed opinions on state management, access control, and audit logging
