About the role
- Build an internal developer platform from the ground up, including self-service provisioning, templated workflows, and standardized paths so product engineers ship without waiting on infrastructure requests
- Lead modernization of early-stage infrastructure, consolidate tooling, and untangle technical debt as the company scales
- Own infrastructure end to end: networks, security, runtime, observability, reliability, and scalability
- Treat the platform as a product with internal engineering teams as users — gather their feedback, identify friction points, prioritize, ship, and measure adoption
- Make architectural decisions for the organization, write design documents, and guide the team through technical choices
- Stay hands-on in the codebase; this is an individual contributor role with leadership responsibilities, not management
What you'll do
- Embed cost efficiency and security from the start, using policy-as-code, least-privilege defaults, and guardrails
- Design and document infrastructure choices that balance cost, performance, and security
- Mentor through example and raise the engineering bar across the platform team
What they're looking for
- Proven track record designing and shipping developer platforms or internal platforms that teams actually adopted
- Strong fundamentals across infrastructure, networking, security, runtime, observability, reliability, and scalability — not deep expertise in one area only
- Hands-on experience leading infrastructure modernization projects
- Platform-as-a-product thinking: experience defining golden paths and self-service capabilities based on actual user needs
- Security-first and cost-conscious mindset built into how you code and architect
- Strong coding in Python, Java, or Go
- Comfort shipping in uncertainty and iterating quickly rather than waiting for perfect conditions
- Ability to lead architectural work from proposal through delivery and ownership of outcomes
