About the role: - Build and maintain backend systems and APIs that power AI-driven applications at YAL - Develop production-grade features using large language models, from prompt engineering to deployment - Debug, test, and refine systems with a methodical approach to quality and reliability - Collaborate on full-stack AI solutions where backend work directly influences user experience What you'll work on: - REST API development and integration with LLM services - Database design and optimization for AI workflows - Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and prompt engineering - Agent frameworks and tool calling to extend model capabilities - Containerization, deployment, and cloud infrastructure for AI models What we're looking for: - Strong Python skills with the ability to write code that is clear, easy to maintain, and production-ready - Hands-on experience building with LLMs through projects, internships, or paid work - Working knowledge of REST APIs, Git version control, and database fundamentals - Understanding of prompting strategies, RAG architectures, and how to invoke external tools from models - Systematic debugging and testing practices that catch issues early - Experience with agent frameworks, workflow orchestration, conversational AI systems, speech synthesis, Docker, or cloud platforms is a plus
